SINGPOSIUM 2012 | 21 Jan 2012 (Edmonton)
Artistry in the Music Class: Essential, Achievable, Enduring
with Elaine Quilichini and Viva Choir
The morning will focus on materials and methodologies for use in the day to day music class. Folk songs, art songs, canons and singing games will be presented incorporating Kodaly techniques. Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of awakening the artist in every child. Calgary Girls Choir
During the afternoon, Ms. Quilichini will lead a rehearsal with Viva, incorporating various aspects of Kodaly's philosophy. Viva is a choir of girls in grades 4-6 who meet once a week for 1 1/2 hours to rehearse and develop their skills as singers and musicians. Special emphasis will be placed on the effect of healthy vocal development on intonation and musicality.

PODIUM 2012 | 17-20 May 2012 (Ottawa, ON)
The Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC) and Choirs Ontario are pleased to announce that the next Podium, Canada’s biennial national choral music conference, will be held in Ottawa May 17 to 20, 2012. It will be the first time in the event’s 30-year history that it will be held in Canada’s national capital.
Podium 2012: A Capital Experience will feature concerts, workshops and exhibits over the four days spanning the Victoria Day long weekend. The concerts will put the spotlight on some of Canada’s top professional and amateur choral ensembles. In addition to the guest professional groups, a Podium conference showcases some 10 to 12 amateur choirs chosen by audition from across the country. The most highly anticipated concert is always that of Canada’s National Youth Choir, made up of top singers aged 18 to 25 chosen by audition in each of the provinces and territories. The 2012 edition will be under the leadership of Ivars Taurins, founder and conductor of Toronto’s Tafelmusik Chamber Choir.

Intended for adult amateur singers with recent choir experience, the University of Alberta Choral Vacation
provides for choir rehearsal and performance while also allowing participants time to explore the beauties
of Tuscany/Umbria or simply enjoy the charms of Cortona (the setting for the popular novel and movie,
Under the Tuscan Sun).

Registration deadline: February 1, 2012 - i Coristi Chamber Choir Two-Day Intensive Choral Conducting Workshop | 6-7 July 2012, Edmonton (Alberta)
Offering two levels of classes that will run concurrently, this workshop is designed for both those
who have little or no experience as a conductor, as well as those who have some degree of training
and experience as a conductor who may want a “refresher” course. (See “Levels” on next page
for further information.)
In addition to group conducting classes, participants will receive individual coaching sessions and
individual podium time. Information sessions will be given on Vocal Production, Diction, Score
Analysis and Preparation, and Rehearsal Preparation and Procedure.
The workshop is being offered for people working with a wide range of singers, ranging from
children to adult, and from school to community and church groups. A maximum of 10 participants
per level will be accepted, based on the order in which applications are received.

International Oratorio Choir Workshop | 16-21 October 2012, Riva del Garda (Italy)
Learn and perform Gioacchino Rossini’s Stabat Mater will be the central focus for this workshop held in Italy in 2012. The World Choral Summit is a unique initiative that will bring together thirty choral leaders from throughout the world. The Summit, a joint project under the sponsorship of IFCM, the China Chorus Association, China Entertainment and Arts Group, and China Cultural International Tours Inc, will be held simultaneously with the 11th China International Choral Festival.Five choirs, each from a different continent, as well as many choirs from throughout the world, will join with their Chinese counterparts to participate in the Summit and Festival. The International Harald Andersén Chamber Choir Competition is held for the fourth time on 21–22 September 2012 in Helsinki, Finland. The registration deadline is on 31 January 2012! This high-quality competition is open to any mixed choir with 16 to 40 singers, with no limitations on nationality. The choir may include professional singers. A maximum of 12 choirs will be pre-selected for the actual Competition on the basis of applications and recordings submitted.
