Greenwood Singers continues its 34-year tradition of exploring the varied facets of music for the Christmas Season with the 2014 edition of The Many Moods of Christmas.  From motets of Renaissance Europe to sparkling arrangement of beloved Christmas carols to favourite popular holiday songs, you won’t want to miss this annual musical celebration of Christmas.  The choir will be accompanied by pianist, Helen Stuart; organist, Marnie Giesbrecht; bassist, Jeff Johnson; and percussionist, Murray Smith.  The program will also include the lively music making of the University of Alberta Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers.

Bells of Concordia’s Christmas Concert will charm you with seasonal favourites adapted for this ensemble such as Still, Still, Still, Silent Night and their signature piece Sleigh Ride. This community-based ensemble performs on the largest set of handbells and handchimes in Canada, including more than six octaves in all. Jubiloso is conducted by internationally renowned handbell conductor Debbie Rice.

Over the past 13 years, this event has raised over $1.3 million for Calgary charities. This year all proceeds, including ticket sales, will support the Calgary Dream Centre’s Room for Hope Campaign. Greenwood Singers | The Many Moods of Christmas

Each spring since 1981, Greenwood Singers has presented a program of choral music from Renaissance to Broadway.  The theme of the 2015 spring concert is Pastorale:  Music Inspired by Life in the Countryside.  The program will open with Italian and English pastoral madrigals extolling the beauty of life in the country and Zigeunerlieder, (Gypsy Songs) Op. 103 by Johannes Brahms with pianist Helen Stuart.  Ms. Stuart will also accompany the choir in Randall Thompson’s Frostiana (Seven Country Songs) on poems by Robert Frost.   The program will conclude with choral selections from the landmark Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma.
