The Augustana Choir | Spring Concert

The Augustana Choir is honoured to have been selected by a jury of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC) to perform at the biennial Podium conference for choral conductors in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia tour repertoire will be performed, comprised primarily of Canadian choral music inspired by the Old World as well as the New World with featured works by local Alberta composers Robin J. King, James Neff, and Dr. Milton Schlosser. Two exciting new commissions by U of A trained composers Christine Donkin and Scott Godin will also be premiered.

Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir and The King’s University College Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Melanie Turgeon, invite you to their International Choir Tour Kick-Off Concert. This concert will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Legalization of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ukraine. From May 4-16 these 2 choirs will tour Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary with a program featuring mostly Ukrainian composers and a few North American composers.

Calgary Boys' Choir with 6-Minute Warning| Spring Forward into Flight
First Church of the Nazarene (65 Richard Way SW), CALGARY
As part of Calgary Boys’ Choir’s flight-themed 2013-14 season, this exciting multimedia concert features all levels of the Calgary Boys’ Choir in classical and modern songs about flight and things that fly. Boys will be singing flight-themed songs including Mendelssohn’s “O for the wings of a dove,” a traditional First Nations’ “Fly like an Eagle” with drumming and choreography, “Be like a bird” by Edmonton composer, Sheila Wright, and Pink Floyd’s “Learning to Fly” with 6 Minute Warning, Edmonton’s male acappella sensation. One Voice Chorus | Ottawa Bound!

One Voice Chorus (OVC) is offering Calgary audiences a sneak preview concert as it prepares for its national debut in May. The choir proudly presents Ottawa Bound! with special guests the Calgary Men’s Chorus and the BarberEllas, in anticipation of the 2014 Unison festival for Canadian LGBTQ choirs. Songs include everything from the pop hit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to the classic Scottish folk song “Loch Lomond”.

Vocal Alchemy | These Are Our Songs

Vocal Alchemy’s upcoming performance of Canadian folk music promises to become a favourite of both longtime choral music lovers and initiates to the genre. Joining VA are guest choir Ante Meridiem - founded in 2012 as a project of Vocal Alchemy for adults who like to sing during the day - and instrumentalists Thom Bennet (drums) and Josh McHan (bass), both of whom are staples in Edmonton’s jazz scene. The lighthearted and varied repertoire includes traditional and contemporary songs written and arranged by composers hailing from Cape Breton to British Columbia.

Our 13th annual Spring concert, “A Red, Red Rose,” conducted by founder Barbara Sadler Wells and accompanied by Jeremy Spurgeon, is dedicated to the memory of Edmonton author, devoted choral musician and volunteer, Margaret (Peg) Matheson. We are proud to share the stage with our guest soloist, soprano Denice Bennett, singing Mozart’s “Laudate Dominum” from Vesperae solemnes de confessore , and the “Alleluia” from Exsultate, jubilate. The concert features sacred and secular music from Baroque to Jazz, with works by Purcell, Bach, Mozart, Fauré, Herbert, Britten, Hamlisch, and Carillo, along with our Infamous Excentrica Sing-along, featuring almost 100% audience participation.
