CHOIR 101
for beginner adult choristers; covers choral fundamentals including sight singing, music theory, and vocal technique
CHOIR 201
for choristers with some experience; explores techniques for more challenging sight singing and more complex music theory
CHOIR 202
for choristers with at least one year of choral experience; reviews the essentials of good vocal technique and explores more complex aspects of vocal production
Q: I am coming back to choir after several years of not singing. I sang when I was younger but have forgotten a lot. Which workshops should I take?
A: If you still remember the basics - rhythmic values, the musical alphabet, terminology, etc. - you should take Choir 201. However, if you feel sort of like you've never sung in a choir before and can't really remember the difference between sharp and flat, a quarter note and whole note, and feel you have forgotten the essentials of good vocal technique, Choir 101 will be the perfect refresher.
Q: I feel very unsure about my sight reading and understanding of music theory so am taking Choir 101. However, I do have a pretty good understanding about vocal technique. Can I take Choir 101 and Choir 202?
A: YES! The courses are set up in such a way that participants can easily move from Choir 101 to Choir 202.
Q: I took Choir 101 last year. What workshops should I take this year?
A: Choir 201 will review a bit of what was covered in Choir 101 as well as explore aspects of music theory and tools for more complex sight reading. You might also consider taking Choir 202, the vocal technique workshop. You may also just take Choir 202 without taking Choir 201.
