Spiritus Chamber Choir & Early Music Voices - Monteverdi Vespers
Knox United Church (506 4 Street SW), CALGARY
Grand in scale, Monteverdi’s masterpiece was the most ambitious and groundbreaking work of sacred music before the great passions of J.S. Bach. The music incorporates soloists and chorus with virtuosic instrumental writing. Monteverdi, a composer without peer, combines intimate prayerful moments with dramatic flourishes to create a masterpiece of spiritual and emotional depth. This is the first time this work is being mounted in Calgary with period instruments: cornetts, sackbuts, curtal, recorders, violone and theorbo – to name a few!
